County Board Meeting Saturday July 15th: TDP

The below information/email is from Adam Henderson, who chairs the Pike President’s Group which recently sent this letter regarding the county’s plan for transportation on the Pike for the next decade  The County Board will meet Saturday, July 16th, and the Transportation Development Plan is on the agenda, so if you wish to tune into the meeting to listen to the discussion or attend and speak up about it, Adam explains how:
Some folks have asked for more information on speaking before/attending the County Board meeting this Saturday:
Board meetings are held in the boardroom at 2100 Clarendon Blvd, room 307.  Courthouse Metro.  The agenda for Saturday’s meeting is here:
Public comment begins at 0830; the meeting itself at 0900.  The public comment period is ONLY for speaking on items NOT on the agenda.
For those not familiar with how the Board works, most items are listed under the ‘consent’ agenda; which consist generally of routine and less-controversial items.  Items 1-51 on Saturday’s agenda are ‘consent’ items; meaning they are passed by the board as a group at the start of the meeting, unless a board member or citizen objects.  If an item is pulled, it is held over for debate at the Tuesday evening recess session.
Items 52-55 are on the regular agenda; which means they will be debated individually by the board.  Public comments are permitted for each regular item as they are called, but a speaker slip must be submitted to the Clerk of the Board prior to the item being called (the Clerk’s station is to the left of the dais in the boardroom).  You can fill out a speaker slip when you come to the meeting, or download one below to fill out and bring with you:
The TDP Plan is the final item on the agenda; #55.
Unfortunately, it’s virtually impossible to guess when an item will come up, because there is no time limit for debate on regular items. I expect that item #52, the Wilson School site, will generate a long debate.
You may wish to follow the debate online at or on TV on Comcast 25 & 74 or Verizon FiOS 39 & 40 to better plan your arrival time.  As long as your speaker slip for the item is submitted to the Clerk BEFORE the item is called, you will be allow to speak on that item.
