Washington Gas is working to relocate their in-street gas main on the west end of Columbia Pike. They must relocate their main prior to the County beginning construction on Columbia Pike improvements between Four Mile Run and the Arlington/Fairfax County line.
After starting near Jefferson Street, Washington Gas’s contractor, Northern Pipeline (NPL), continues to move east with their gas main relocations. They have completed approximately 50 percent of the work.
The existing median and trees in this segment of Columbia Pike will be removed to allow for the continuation of the gas main relocation. The trees will be replaced later, when the County begins work on streetscape improvements.
Future night work is anticipated at the signalized intersections of South Dinwiddie Street and South Jefferson Street. Additional updates will be sent once this work is scheduled.
Upon completion of the gas main installation, NPL will begin changing over gas services to adjacent properties. Affected properties will be contacted, in advance, for coordination of the changeovers.
Washington Gas is currently on track for completing this pre-construction work in fall 2017.
